Rahass

themefinland

The naga known as Rahass became well known name during the formation of the formation of the southern provinces. He was most notably known for uniting the scattered tribes in the tropical savanna areas under one single banner, a banner which was very often seen during raids and conquests there. Thanks to Rahass' unusually large size convincing, or intimidating the other tribes to join him happened fairly painlessly, several members of the tribes that were joined in into Rahass' own tried to usurp the role of the leader from him, but each of them failed. Rahass' was openly known to pay tribute to the ancient goddess of fortune, whom his tribe believed to be the ancestor of the race of nagas, his success in surviving his assassinations and conquests was partly credited to this divine protection. Due to the fact that not many large strongholds existed in the southern provinces at the time his tribe seized the majority of the landmass there, his tribe would be then later on identify themselves as the "alliance of scales". Despite the name many of the tribes that were united into the alliance still had sore relations with each other, however if any of the tribes were to take up on arms due to these bad relations these tribes were quickly, and harshly punished. One on one dueling however was favored within the alliance, as it was one of the ways of climbing the diplomatic and social ladder in the alliance itself. The other way of climbing said ladders was to prove oneself in combat on the battlefield during raids and conquests. The conquered areas had to pay tribute to the alliance, usually in the form of feeding and resupplying any members of the alliance that passed by the cities, as well as pledging themselves to defend their towns and tribes from any outsiders who do not belong to the alliance to the very end.

The main force of the alliance was almost always mobile and would rarely stop at one particular location for long, which made defeating the alliance in its entirety difficult in the later years. However the alliance was broken apart years later in the conquest of serpent ridge, where the main force of the alliance was eliminated, including Rahass himself, by the covenant of man. However taking full control of the provinces proved to be incredibly resource heavy and difficult for the covenant, as most of the cities and towns that had been built there were hostile against the covenant, making resupplying almost impossible as all of the towns refused to sell them anything and attacked the covenanters on sight, as they treated them as hostile invaders due to being still loyal to the alliance. The alliance itself never really dissipating despite its main fighting force and leader gone, it is still powerful enough that it has been able to hold back any outsiders who tried to take control of their provinces.

Ooh I love the colors and overall feel of this piece! Do you go to conventions or anything? Would love to get some of your work as a print!

Thanks a bunch Tikaka! Nope, unfortunately conventions up here in Finland are rather few and far between. Hmm, I have never thought that someone would want to get one of my drawings in print, but guess I have to figure something out for that now :D Though I think deviantart has a pretty good print service, I did a small test order from there once and the overall quality was pretty good! But then again it is bloody expensive too!

I've just used local printers myself, which are great for small sets, but I just sell them at cons really. 8D If you ever decide to go to a con do post about it and I'll try to come check your table out! o/
