Snub nosed beach lizards, also known as red streaks by sailors who can see their vividly red fins glide across the water surface, creating a stark contrast with the surrounding blue waters. They are a mostly carnivorous category of large lizards that live on small deserted islands or tropical coastlines around the continents near the equator. Their habitats include the beaches and the shallow and deep waters that surround said beaches, sometimes they may wander inland to the tropical forests, however those snub noses are a sub-category of the red streaks. Young red streaks spend majority of their time on land, either by hiding in the sand of the beaches or inside burrows made by their parents for them. Young red streaks have more pale scales and lack the deep redness in their fins and the bright yellow on their underbellies. The darkening of their scales and the color change in their fins is a sign of passage from an adolescent to an adult.

Red streaks mostly hunt in the open sea, where they hunt smaller fish. They rarely attack boats, but there has been a few cases where one has jumped aboard a fishing boat to steal some of their catch. They possess gills which allow them to stay submerged for a considerable amount of time. The actual hunting of their food happens in the sea but they much prefer to eat and digest their food on land, storing the fish in the bag in their throat until they find a suitable spot on land to take sun while they digest. This is also how they feed their young, as young red streaks cannot efficiently swim. They are rarely hunted for anything else than sport and for the selling of their skeletons as decorative items. Part of the reason for this is that their meat is widely considered not to taste very good and is best avoided by people who are not accustomed to its taste as it has a very distinctive texture and bitter taste.

Albeit not very territorial, they do attack anyone who gets too close for comfort. Most colonies of red streaks can live rather peacefully and there is rarely power struggles inside them. They have a basic social structure inside their colonies, as all of their eggs usually are laid inside a small perimeter which is then guarded by a few members of said colony. When near to hatching, the parent of the egg(s) returns to the eggs to take care of the hatchling(s).

Most people wont see any of them in their lifetime as they live mostly in out of reach places, however in chance encounters with fishermen they do not shy away from them and show curiosity towards their boats, usually rubbing their sides and heads against them. They tend to ignore anything larger than their head and reports of attacks on people are extremely rare.
