Iron Skull by TheGrinDragon

Iron Skull

TheGrinDragon

This was the piece I made from my very first iron pour.
I had been sick during the real preparation week and I only had this thing that I made out of styrofoam. Basically what I had done was attach styrofoam gates to the skull and just packed it into a resin-bonded sand mold. This made it so that I didn't have to make a 2-part mold (which I didn't have time for) because, when the molten metal hits the styrofoam, the styrofoam evacuates in a horrible black cloud of death and the cavity is then filled with metal. c:

Seriously though, don't go burning styrofoam. It's nasty stuff. D:

Nasty fog or not, the result is magnificent, and this is a wonderful piece. Wow...

      Thank you. :)
People were wondering how I got the texture and my answer was basically "styrofoam...because I ran out of time." ;)

I see where you're coming from! I'm a traditional photographer, so I'm all about the textures. And sometimes the best results come from that indeterminacy, the piece is definitely one of a kind now!
