Observation of The Fantastic Creation - Thursday Prompt Story [#2, 12/1/23]

Without warning, it happened.

The supermassive black hole that lied on the center of the universe had begun to grow to drastic proportions. Slowly, at first, it devoured nearby stars. The more it was fed, the bigger it got, and the faster it would grow. Even though it was rapidly increasing in size, the Fantastic Creators assured us that it wouldn't be strong enough to reach our haven until many years into the future, ensuring we would have enough time to prepare. And as frightening as it was to know not even They could stop this force, we would at least be able to see the Creators in action for when the time inevitably came.

However, that quickly changed once Supay, the foul God of the Dead, reared his ugly head from wherever he resided. As it turns out, the black hole incident was partially his doing, stating that he got tired of waiting for it to grow to the point it was at now. A weeklong cosmic war followed, in which Wiraqocha, our holy ruler and the eternal God of Everything, declared victory over His enemy. However, not all was victorious, as the black hole had grown exceptionally larger while the war was underway. Seeing no other way to stop the growth, Wiraqocha finally made the decision to kill Supay and use his remaining soul to halt the cosmic devourer.

Unfortunately, while the black hole did stop growing... it only did so for a few months. The black hole became a ticking time bomb during that period, and once that timer finally reached its absolute limit, it began growing again. This time, however, it grew cosmically large, advancing its volume at a rate of light-years per second. Our haven had been hit first by its gravitational pull, the sheer force that the black hole had now ripped apart our planetary sanctuary. It then got strong enough to pull apart the Andromeda galaxy... and eventually the Milky Way.

After eating away at the outer planets, the black hole had finally reached the Earth. The planet I once called home, now completely barren after all intelligent life had gone extinct, began to rip apart from the core as its very composition was plunged into the abyss above. I had managed to fly away just before this point, but seeing my home, the place where I lived as a mortal, and was reborn as a demigod, get destroyed with no chance at recovering anything from the rapidly disappearing debris... It made me so sick to my stomach.

With my safety secured and everyone in our haven warped away to another dimension until the new universe was born, there was sadly nothing else that could be done. The Fantastic Creators and I watched in horror as the black hole only got bigger with each passing hour, until it eventually stopped growing. It had absorbed just about everything in the universe... and now all that was left was itself. The hole now shrinked rapidly, consuming itself as fast as it did to devour the universe. Blackness surrounded the area, quite literally nothing in space left anymore. Any remaining stars would eventually join the shrinking void, until it was just a few meters wide.

And so it was: Wiraqocha and I watched as the last of the universe got sucked up into the tiny, lifeless black hole. All the light that it could absorb, and the last stars that surrounded them, were led to the devourer of all without any chance to escape, while all we could do was just watch and mourn. Some of the Creators around me began to cry, while others looked away in melancholy. Even though this was an inevitable outcome, no one had expected it to end so suddenly.

"...Uthurunku." Wiraqocha, a huge tiger adorned in Incan robes and gold jewelry, looked down to me. As I glanced back at Him, I came to realize that I still had not accustomed myself to being smaller in comparison to the other Fantastic Creators. "When you were still a mortal, did you remember the very first thought of yours for the story you wrote about us?"

It had been a while, but I eventually got it in my head again. "Oh... right. The cycle of the universe... That's when the whole thing just imploded on itself and eventually burst anew into a big bang, forming new life forms and the like."

Wiraqocha nodded, giving a small sigh. "And even then, you were right. This universe must be born anew, as it has been for countless cycles by now. Everything that once was, must no longer be. Maybe in the next cycle, it could still exist, but not in the way you remember."

I sighed heavily, pulling my body closer to Him while His arm embraced my whole body. "It's just... Actually seeing it for the first time, and seeing the home I once knew... It's a lot for me."

"I know, churi." Wiraqocha moved His hand up and down my shoulder, comforting me. "I did not expect this to happen so suddenly. I had planned to talk to you about this in a much lighter tone, but I foolishly believed that I could stop the black hole. It is my fault that the universe has been completely destroyed, and for not allowing you any time to prepare."

"My King... This was not your fault," I replied. "You simply did what You could have done."

"I did. But it was not the right choice. I could have let the void grow on its own and it would have done far less emotional turmoil." Wiraqocha was clearly upset. "...Alas. What is done is done. I couldn't save this universe, and I let you down."

We stayed in silence for a few minutes after this, only occasionally watching as the black hole kept shrinking down more in the distance. My train of thought was interrupted once more by Wiraqocha, who decided to ask me a completely different question.

"...Uthurunku. Why do you still hold on to your earthly possessions and memories? Do they not cause you pain?"

I adjusted myself to Wiraqocha's arm again, thinking about the question for a bit before finally responding. "...Yes, they do, my King. But over the years, I have come to realize that even if I don't want to remember them, I cannot simply get rid of them. Those things are a part of me, and no matter what I do, it will remain a piece of me."

I glanced over to the black hole again. "Even though physically, they do not exist anymore, I will always hold them dearly to my heart and soul, for they are what makes up my very being in the end."

"...so why DID you go back to your home, then?" Wiraqocha retained His cool, soothing voice, but it felt a lot sterner now as He shifted His attention to that. "You certainly were not there for a 'final goodbye'".

"That... is true." I replied shakily, realizing that I simply had to admit it. The only reason I was even there was to see if I could save any memory of--

"It is okay, Uthurunku." The large god immediately halted my thoughts, perhaps knowing why already. "In the heat of the moment, one forgets all morals and knowledge to prioritize their desires. I don't blame you."

The black hole we've both been staring at was almost done swallowing all the stars. In that moment, from its center, a bright light began to glow...

"It is almost time, Uthurunku," Wirqocha chuckled. "You saw destruction incarnate, and complete eradication of a universe. Perhaps this was the worst way to have gone about with this lesson... so now, We can finally show you why We are the Fantastic Creators."

All the Creators gathered in a semicircle around the black hole. It was mere centimeters now, but it shined bright with white light. It wouldn't be long, however, before this light also ceased to exist. The Creators all got into position. Their sacred duty was about to commence.

One by one, each raised their hand up and recited a prayer in Quechua, our native language. Once one was done, they floated away to the background, and another Creator took their place. All of them prayed to the quickly receding black hole, giving it energy to absorb that would later be used by the last two, most important Creators. And so, after each and every Creator faded into the darkness, the final two Creators stepped up: Wiraqocha, and His brother, Pacha Kamaq. They both proceeded to lead me to the hole, both of Their large arms holding me tight, as They finally recited the incantation of the Fantastic Creation:

For a new home,
For a new life,
For a new celebration of our grace!

We give you our wishes,
We lend you our strength,
We bless you with our hope for a brand new haven!

Guide us to freedom!
Guide us to peace!
Show to the universe you will replace...

"Our infinite reach!" Wiraqocha bellowed, confidently continuing his part of the incantation.

"Our plentiful gifts!" Pacha Kamaq was next to speak, bringing forth his part of the spell. Without skipping a beat, Both now looked towards me, waiting for me to finish the incantation.

With one breath, I finally brought forth my wish. One deep breath in, and...

"...and to not take for granted what we have forsaken!"

All of us now fixated our gaze fixated towards the small glimmer of light that was left. The final part of the Creation was, at long last, upon us.

Heed our call!
Lift our spirits!
Let the universe shrink...

The two deities held me close to each other as all three of us held out one hand towards the light, giving it our very essence as it kept shrinking and whittling down to nothing, but just before it could fizzle out forever--

"AND BE BORN ANEW!" All three of us shouted at the same time the last line of the incantation. The energy that we created was so great that it almost made me pass out from exhaustion... if it wasn't for the tiny bright light finally expanding again.

The light exponentially expanded to what could only be described as a large-scale supernova, throwing particles and light in every direction. A low, thundrous rumble could be heard first, but seconds later... A loud, world-shattering boom impacted the three of us, the massive shockwave accompanying it nearly sweeping us away. The sphere of bright gases and atoms grew more and more as we now found ourselves inside its blast radius. Intense winds and colors of every visible spectrum flew past our heads, and I could only close my eyes in fear... yet we did not budge.

I opened my eyes for a few moments. In that moment, I saw... everything. The new universe, shifted and reorganized from the last iteration, expanded and grew in size by the second. In my eyes, I could see the new planets, the new galaxies, a whole different array of asteroids and stars, colors clashing and weaving to form a beautiful mosaic of near infinite width. None of these items even existed yet -- they would be formed over the course of millions of years from now -- but as I saw it, the new universe was fully formed, and it was incredible. No words could possibly describe well enough how grand it all was... In that moment, I, too, felt like a true Fantastic Creator.

The extreme winds and bright visions were too much for me, however, and in those final moments I remember before finally letting the new universe throw me away where it willed... I could hear Wiraqocha telling me...

"Your wish... was the best one I've heard so far."

Observation of The Fantastic Creation - Thursday Prompt Story [#2, 12/1/23]

The Fire Tiger

A theory called "Big Bounce" proposes that the universe could collapse to the state where it began and then initiate another Big Bang, so in this way, the universe would last forever but would pass through phases of expansion (Big Bang) and contraction (Big Crunch). This means that there may be a universe in a state of constant Big Bangs and Big Crunches.

Thursday Prompt Story: This week's prompt is... exponential

I was planning on getting this finalized by Friday but it appears my lovely autistic brain felt like being depressed on that same day and completely crushed my mood. At least this prompt really got me thinking: This story is tied to a much bigger story I have yet to properly write out, in which a pantheon of gods led by two brothers from parallel universes attempt to restore a "perfect heaven" that they created but was thrashed by rebels. Writing this story has really made me reconsider some key points from it, which I am glad that happened now.
