Note: to clear up confusion early, The Demon Ferret is a wolverine monster, not a ferret!

So I took a little break from my current project for this mission: finally fix up my main tail. This was finally spurred by an event where the tail decided to be an butt and stain a nice white shirt of mine. So, to talk about this project, I'm going to start at the beginning. If you want to skip all of that, just go straight to the bottom! From a previous submission of this tail, where you can see it before the refurb:

"Standard Tail: The really long dragon one XD 5ft long, made with a shortpile local fur for the core, surfaced with velvet, and the base is furred with Mongolian dark camel fur. Its stuffed with polyfil and magical unicorn guts, and has elastic loops attached to the belt directly, with the fur glued down around the loops to hide it. This tail was the second attempt at the DF's tail (the first one is never to be seen, and was destroyed for the stuffing), and was one of my first few tails ever."

Over the past 3 years, this tail suffered many an abuse, even through it's poor construction. I originally tried to make it out of a local shortpile that I attempted to paint black (I was inexperienced and stupid), but when that didn't work, the velvet surface was added. The tail was completed sometime in early 2013, and at that time, I had no idea how to handle what I was doing, especially on that scale. nor how to handsew velvet. I actually still don't know how to do that. Velvet is hard to work with. Due to this, I attached it via glue, which became more and more apparent as the tail wore down. I tried coloring it in recent times, as that worked on other older projects, which failed on this occasion (for unknown reasons) and eventually led to the shirt incident.

So, what did I do? First of all, I got all of the residue I could off of the tail. This included washing it, using folex, and plain 'ol hard work. Next, I removed the attached belt. I know how to work around the weight issue now, and it's unnecessary. It got a new base-plate with elastic straps for a belt, and works just fine. The big change, though, is the new surface. It's made of shiny seal fur, and was an absolute b***h to put on. Now that it has been applied, and the belt removed, the tail is also now 100% machine washable! WOOT!! Unfortunately some flaws of the tail, such as the uneven spear, the wrinkles, the fact that the spear is not completely horizontal to the base, all are still apparent in this tail, too. This project was to fix this tail, flaws and all, as it's still a good tail, moves in a very specific way, and holds a very special place in my heart. I will be making a more realistic version of this tail, as well, hopefully sometime next year. This tail is just my super toony version.

What don't I like? Just one thing. The size of the spear. Sadly the inherent mass the seal fur pile added to the spear tip made it a bit large, and it's going to take time to get used to. Hopefully there will be some benefits, such as it being easier for me to grab while in suit and such. It's a nitpick. I'm honestly just ecstatic that my tail is nice and durable again, and super soft!

For those who don't want to read the story, this tail is my old tail resurfaced with soft seal fur, belt loops instead of the attached belt, and looks a million times better! It has it's problems, but in the end I'm proud of the product, achieved the main goal, and I did learn quite a bit as well. My tail is back in action, and will be for a long, long time.
