Watching the River

TheCandyDragon

She believed in ghosts and spirits - how couldn't she, when the clans were built upon the deeds of their starry ancestors? - but magical living cats stretched that belief thin. Only the dead earned that kind of power, and only clan cats got to benefit from it. Outsiders had no Starclan, and even if they did, they had no Moonstone to connect them with their ancestors. The hunt for this mysterious cat was useless in her opinion, especially now that half the clan was gone. They needed to focus on the cats they had left, not chase a loner's shadow! What would they do when - if! - they found them? Ask them questions? And about what? What could a loner know about the spirits that medicine cats or Starclan didn't? It was ridiculous.

Under different circumstances, Scorchflood would have argued, but the clan had faced enough grief to last moons. She would help search, though unhappily, and hope that Morningstar gave up on this foolishness sooner rather than later.
