Division 0 and it's members are considered the Foreign Legion within the Gotei 13. The Primary Function of the Foreign Legion is to regulate the number of menos hollows and preventing them from becoming Ajuchas or even worse Vasto Lorde class hollows. They are the first line of defense against aggression from Hueco Mundo and as such carry an incredible burden as well as an incredibly high mortality rate. They also have the responsibility of pursuing the enemies of Soul Society. Any fugitives who escape soul society and hide in either Hueco Mundo or the Human world are pursued by Division 0. The division is comprised strictly of volunteers outside of the Captain and Vice Captain and those volunteers are required to be 5th seat or higher in other division. It is said that Seats 3 through 10 in Division 0 are all powerful enough to compete for at least 3rd seat in other divisions, if not Vice Captain outright.
