I imagine big ones are a scary experience. Where I live in the Midwest is along the New Madrid fault line............but at best we get small rumbles. It always seems things like that happen super-late at night, too. The biggest tremble we had was in the middle of the night and I remember I was sleeping, at this time I had a large (movie poster sized) framed Naoko Takeuchi (Sailormoon) art print above my bed--the shaking didn't wake me up, but the framed print falling on top of me did! XD

Oh man XD Yeah it's amazing how often i hear people say they've slept through them and i know i have too or have been too asleep for my brain to understand its an earthquake. Usually they aren't very strong though so it's almost like you are dreaming it.

In most cases.............it's like you said above--you're thinking its a very large semi truck going down the road. I live in an apartment complex with many elderly people, so I'm used to fire trucks coming down the alleyway beside my apartment, that stuff rattles my windows.. But when a quake is bad enough to crack sidewalks and put the fear into you, that's some real scary stuff there! @_@

At least it was not devastating and you're alive. :)
