Sentry - Art by Sidonie

Televassi

Once more, a wonderful piece done by :iconsidonie: You really should check her out, she's really great to work with. I provided her with the sketches fro the armour, and went and did this with them! =)

Info on the Picture

Right, so I figured it may be nice to explain exactly what he's wearing, and what it means. Skirting around terms, this is just one of the armour types you'll find Televassi's race wearing. You may want to check out the piece done by Simul, as that is showing another armour type.

Anyway, this is a set of armour a upper-middle class warrior would afford. This is primarily chainmail with lamellar ontop, covering most of the vital areas of the body. On the waist, most wolves have a metal plate, often decorated, as a means of showing on their armour itself who they are. Another way this is done is on the lamellar itself, with various colours of plate and thread being used to distinguish individuals.

In terms of wargear, this is what the more 'civilised' factions sport. Most bring a spear primarily used for stabbing. Depending on the type some have very broad heads for dealing with unarmoured foes, whilst others are narrower in order to have better penetration. If this spear breaks, they will then fight with the sword.

Much like their less civilised kin, swords are the most important item for a soldier, as they are often objects handed down through families, being bestowed on the best warrior, as they represent the honour of the house/bloodline. As such the sword is a status symbol, but also has spiritual value, with the swords having lives that outlive the memory of those who wield them.

The shield is another important part of kit, serving as good protection and as a means of showing who's who. They come in various sizes and shapes, but are more commonly larger designs that cover a large part of the body. The 'civilised' factions almost all fight with shields, as they, like the humans, fight in cohesive units, rather than as individuals. In close formation, they often overlap their shields to form a shieldwall. A warrior returning home without a shield is considered to be a sign of cowardice, as deserters often drop heavy shields as they flee.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! It's a bit of a peak into a novel series I'm writing. xD

They do indeed! I did a lot of research about Germanic warrior societies, and they pretty much borrow that heroic ethos. =)
