Lacan's Mirror by TeknicolorTiger

Lacan's Mirror

TeknicolorTiger

A digital painting done for my HUMN 411 Written Project class. It goes in conjunction with my essay for this class which approaches my writing - my current novel - from a critical perspective. I chose psychoanalysis since it is a central theme in The Monster of Amber Peace. I get to analyze Hayden, basically, and use him as a case study in how werewolves are represented in my novel as well as culture.

So, some people have expressed confusion as to what is happening in this picture. Well, I wanted it to be a kind of indication of an aspect of Hayden's psychology, which is warped, mostly due to the interference of his wolf-personality - basically a conscious and very volatile Id. All of my werewolf characters "suffer" from this sort of dissociation with their identities, but Hayden, like many who have been raised with the idea, has chosen to embrace it.

Here, Hayden sits in a dilapited mental hospital, currently dissociated with his wolf-personality, but is still able to feel and experience whatever it does. The words on the wall and radiator read "leere" and "vide". Both mean "void" or "empty" in German and French, both languages Hayden is capable of speaking.

You can see a detail of the werewolf here -> (incoming link)
