9" x 12 "color pencil with a bit of copic marker
Poor photo has a lot of glare and loss of res. Contrast SUCKS!
I'l try and get a better shot tomorrow.
A lot of experimenting with light, texture, shadows and perspective. I don't do practice pieces as I more or less consider each piece I do practice for the next. I think I learned quite a bit with this one.
First in a series of 4 that I hope to have complete by AC. The next 3 will each have 3 characters. This project is a labor of love…or masochism…or something.
A prince has the throne thrust upon him when his father dies during a minor border skirmish. He is not ready for the position and he knows it but accepts the responsibility of kingship and endeavors to rule as his father did and resist the myriad of temptations that comes with ultimate rule. He will succeed….for a while.
Lean and golden maned, he will soon fill out and become the dark maned image of his father.
I will be working a bit more on the lighting and shading, especially on him but in the meantime, critique is welcome. Yeah, a load of anatomy errors.
I love details and you always pack in so much great detail (whatever happened with the one with the peacock chair?). Realy well done as usual!
Thanks! The Peacock throne and the piece with the leopard and the bird are on the back burner. When it comes to back grounds, I kinda freeze up if I envision something to complex and both are reasonably so. Of late I've been taking the approach of one segment at a time and have been managing as on this current piece. On it, I finished him quite quickly but then developed a block when it came to the BG. Basically overwhelmed by the whole but then I looked at it as like I described above, I was able to finish it up.

As always, a wonderful piece of work. The detail is stunning as ever, and the idea behind it is interesting.
Well done!
