Young noodles at play

Taross

It was early in the morning and the small, secluded glade was ringing with the sound of young voices; laughter, yelling and general whooping zipping all over the place across the water and the surrounding trees.
Mostly it was just two voices leading the loudest belonging to Sairai and Hizo, an azure blue and a burnt orange lung dragon both chasing one another around and brandishing their glowing pearls at one another. Ainir, with his multi-coloured markings, followed at a short distance. He was a little more cautious than the two girls, but he also had their youngest sibling in tow.
Samira was only a year younger than the triplets and as much as shi tried to be as boisterous as the two sisters, shi eventually tired of the busy-ness and gravitated towards hir more calm brother.

The reason for the abundant fun was pretty clear as soon as the small group came to a stop at the waters edge and Hizo was the first to pipe up. "I got a new cool trick!" she said in that deliberate manner of a young child making an important proclamation. "I can do a twister!"
"Nuuh you can't!" Sairai immediately interjected. "It's just a breeze." She followed up with a giggle.
Hizo bristled a little, the fluff at the tip of her tail poofing out some before she huffed and looked away from Sairai in indignation. "I so can!"
Sairai dangled a hindpaw in the water she was floating over and twirled it around a little, looking at the ripples before turning her attention back up, having come up with the perfect retort. "It's just gonna be a fart."

In the mean time Samira had taken up to perching on a nearby tree, looking on curiously at the two trying to upstage one another until Ainir glid in closer and broke up the retorts "Maybe show us?" he suggested.
Sairai completely forgot her 'arguement' at that moment, dipping a little lower and looking up while nodding eagerly "Yeah! Show!" After all... watching a show from her sister was a lot more fun and interesting than argueing about one.
"All right! Watch this then..." Hizo replied, grasping her pearl with her digits spread out and peering at it intently. The tip of her tongue peeked out from her muzzle and even her barbels were wriggling with the intense concentration from the young Lung. Everyone else held their breath and watched on intently.

After a few moments, Samira looked around and up, sniffing the air a bit when a breeze started to pick up. Hizo's pearl was casting a steady glow now and it was clear something was definitely happening.
"This is taking too long..." Sairai softly complained before perking up and hefting her own pearl higher. "Here!"
The lightblue orb started to glow together with purple one as Sairai started to 'help' Hizo by adding some of her own magic to the breeze that the latter was starting to generate.

"Didn't mom say not to do that?" Samira asked from her overhead perch, backing off just a little bit and tightening hir grip on the branch.
The warning came too late, though. Already the waters surface started twirling upwards when the wind-aspected and the water-aspected magics of two sisters started to interact, resulting in a sudden high splash of water twisting upwards towards Hizo.
The two girls were absolutely delighted and whooped with amusement. Poor Ainir, though, could only yelp with surprise as he tried to get out of the way of the spray, reflexively bringing up his own magic to try and keep dry... while tumbling backwards into the pond.

Samira definitely had the best spot of all three it seems, or at least judging by the lengthy account that shi could make of the entire scene at the end of the day; regaling a whole epic story of a clash of wind, water and fire and why Ainir smelled like a wet fish once all four flyers returned to their parents.
Of course their mom (and dad) already knew perfectly well what had happened... It's easy to keep an eye on things when you can hide overhead and watch, just in case.

This is a lovely image made by   cervelet of the four little noodle hatchlings living in Safehold.
From top to bottom, left to right, they are Samira, Hizo, Sairai and Ainir.
While they are still too young to actually keep their own pearls -one of their parents keeps them safe- they are old enough to start learning properly how to use it. And kids often learn better during (supervised) play than sitting still and trying to pay attention to someone explaining something. Specially when the parents are ALSO still kindof learning the fine ins and outs of their own pearls' power.
Usually, things go well. Sometimes someone comes back with a sligtly singed antler, waterlogged fur or a mane full of twigs, leaves and mud from an unplanned emergency landing. But children are children and even the well-behaved ones should get a chance to BE children once in a while.
