Zaber Fang 105 - Draft

This is a typical Known Volume Zoid. No, not the huggable ones you see on late midworlds, or the windup toy ones from Ori's homeworld. In the hierarchy of armored fighting vehicles, they fall into the space occupied by light tanks and heavy armored cars. They're typically armed with heavy autocannon or autoloading low-pressure howitzers. They use the "electro-hydraulic combination action" system seen on Mobile Troopers and Mobile Labors. The prime mover is typically a micropile- or diesel-hybrid system backed by batteries for surge power. (I'm sorry, I can't do diesel-mechanical.)

The pictured instance is an Imperial Grand Army Zaber Fang Heavy Gun Type, sporting the Type 12 105mm low recoil autoloading howitzer, replacing the 76mm type that is typical for most Zoids. Traverse speed, fire rate, and carousel capacity are traded off for extra punch and a little more range. An 8mm medium machine gun is coaxially mounted. Standard 40mm smoke grenade dischargers are fitted to the weapons station. A ventral hull 13mm HMG is also fitted, but seldom used due to its limited traverse. The armor provides all-around protection from heavy machinegun rounds and shell splinters, while the forward armor is resistant to 30mm autocannon shells. It's not uncommon for Zoids to return to base without a head, though... Top speed on hard surfaces is up to 85 km/h. (The fastest Zoids are capable of 130km/h, which is pretty blistering by AFV standards.)

There are exceptions to the rule of typical Zoids being the size of garden-variety sophonts or Mobile Troopers. One incident involved Mobile Suit-sized Zoids that perpetrated a terror attack on Kipton City but that appears to have been a freak occurrence.

Mobile Trooper pilots refer to engagements with Zoids as "big game hunting."
