Baragon Project WIP - 11222015

KronoGarrett

I spent a weekend in hack mode, living only on bananas, coffee and granola bars, with vaporwave in the background. This is the current result, a seafoam green foam object recognizable as the anterior end of everyone's favorite floppy-eared Toho kaiju.

Not pictured is the pile of foam shreds, which could best be compared to the results of feeding muppets into a woodchipper. Not that I'd feed muppets into a woodchipper mind you, but...

Planned Alterations/Next Steps:
-Those rough spikes will be carved down dramatically, and those ears will be properly shaped and thinned down a bit.
-I'm cutting off the neck structure. I'll redo it when I have a bodysuit to integrate it with.
-Maybe the ears should be redone with a pool noodle foam reinforcing structure to provide the correct degree of floppiness.
-The rough foaming will be shaved down. I'll go to the local Sears tomorrow and get an electric shaver.
-Maybe the eyebrows could be a bit beefier?
-I'll be doing a duct tape dummy when I'm with my family for the holidays. Don't worry, I have bandage scissors and a cheap set of pajamas.

This is only my second attempt at building a complex creature costume. The last effort from eight years ago failed miserably due to a lack of knowledge, poor construction technique, incorrect materials, and an inability to properly visualize what I was trying to build. I probably couldn't have done anything like this until last year.

The other result...well, the less said about that, the better.

    HELL YEAH BARAGON!!!
    This looks great so far!
I think the ears look fine but if you're not pleased with them, may I suggest crafting foam?

      Thanks.

Oh, yeah, that could potentially work. I think I'll try using it as flexible reinforcement, though, that seems like a better compromise and won't require me to pull off the existing foamwork.

Oooh, now I see, I could use it as a stiffener and trim out the inner portion of the ears. Great suggestion.
