I made this to explain my stance around the current drama surrounding the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians sports teams. If you know me either in real life or on the internet, you will know that I am a very avid sports fan. While I am not a fan of this specific team, I feel like the Redskins deserve to keep their name. FedEx has pressured the Washington Redskins to change their name, and a lot of sites, including Amazon, have pulled this team's merchandise from their websites. I remember 5 years ago when this debate started and my stance has not changed one bit. The Redskins as a name is not an offensive name nor is it a racial slur. I live in an area with a substantial Native American population, and my family is Shawnee. Out of those people, I have not seen very many people who oppose the name. However, they're not the ones with the opinion being spread around the internet. Most of the people calling for the name to be changed are NOT directly Native American, or have substantial Native American heritage. It is NOT your place to call for something of a different race to be banned if you do not belong to that group of people. I can't call for the New York Yankees to be renamed to the New York Malcolm X's, and my African American friends can't call for the Memphis Grizzlies to be renamed to the Memphis Elvises. Horrible examples, but the point remains the same. Let the group of people that the team is named after to say whether or not the name is racist, not you. I am against FedEx's demands and I am against the mob surrounding this movement to change the name of this historic franchise. I know people are not going to listen to some furry who can barely draw, but I think a lot of people agree that the drama around the name is absolutely ridiculous. If you are a fan of this team, or if you are sick of people trying to shit on this franchise, please, make your voice heard. This bullshit has to stop. #KeepTheName
