Fishing Trip 🎣😸🙀 by Sylia

Fishing Trip 🎣😸🙀

Sylia

"Sis, we really need to take a step back. Put down the phone, get away from the crowd."
Rina was perplexed, turning to glance at her conjoined twin Maya. "What do you mean?"
"Like, get out and experience nature. The world is bigger than the coffee shop and your phone."
"You're the one that has been buried in your phone for the entire last two days!"
    "I was planning something!"
"Like what, where to place another book case?" Rina reached over to poke her sister's cheek playfully.
Maya huffs, "No, a fishing trip."
Rina seemed skeptical. "Like, with water and stuff?"
"No! Well yes, but we can rent a boat so we're not going to be swimming."
"If you really want this, sure, I'll try it."

--

The setup seemed to go decent enough. Getting the boat in the water and rowing out onto the lake wasn't the most exciting thing, but at least Rina was doing something. Then the line was cast and the waiting. It had only a couple of minutes and Rina was already afraid she was going to lose her mind. How do people do something so boring? All of this setup only to sit here and wait?
Then the pole jerked and bent. If Maya hadn't been gripping so tightly it might have leapt from their hands! Maya tugged on the pole to secure the hook, then relaxed slightly. The line remained taut and the fight was on. She shoots a look over to her sister. "Rina, you got to work the reel!"
"Oh, right." They took turns, Maya working the pole to drag the fish in closer and then Rina spinning the reel to bring it in. Their tail swished and swayed as together they took part in the fight against the fish. Maya was starting to see the appeal, her joy growing with each passing moment. At one point the fish lept from the water and splashed down and her instincts spurred her on while they worked to bring the line in closer. Finally Maya hoists the fish out of the water to dangle on the line before them. The fish's green scales shimmed in the pre-dawn light and it shakes and wiggles vigorously, still trying to swim to freedom but it had no purchase.
Maya put the pole in the mount on the boat and reached for the fish. It took her a couple tries as it would flick and squirm once touched but Maya managed to get a firm hold on it. "Alright, now you have to get in there and pull the hook out."
Rina looks skeptical, staring at the fish and it's gaping mouth and gills. "Eww, you mean I got to touch it?"
"It's not going to bite you."
Rina shot a skeptical look at her conjoined twin. Being fused together means everything was a cooperative task. She often dragged Maya out of her comfort zone so it was only fair that she go along with one of Maya's ideas, and today that means having to touch a slimy fish. She reached for the hook and recoiled when the fish jerked and made another attempt to escape! She went for a second try and went fast, grabbing the hook and yanking it free. The fish wriggled ever more vigorously and leapt right out of Maya's hand, landing on the floor of the boat and flopping around!  Rina squeaked in surprise and tried to lean back, nearly making them fall down into the boat but Maya grabbed the rim to steady them.
Maya laughs, finally that rush of excitement wearing off. "See, that was fun. We've still got the whole day to catch a lot more!" She grabs at the fish and it took her a couple times before she got a secure hold on it and dropped it into their catch bucket. "Now let's go again." She put another bait on the hook and grabbed the handle of the fishing pole. Rina followed suit, putting her hand on the handle so they could cast the line together and with a swing off into the distance the bait went, making a splash some space away.
Rina looks at the fishing pole, "Can we switch up? You can reel this one in. I wanna fight it like you did!"
Maya should have planned for that! She got the left handed pole as she wasn't sure Rina would be up to the task. "Uh, sure, we'll figure it out."
Their tail sways and Rina grins wide, already excited for the next fight. She stared off to where the line had landed and waited. And waited. And waited. It had seemed like an hour, but it was merely a minute. Already she was getting bored again. Her attention strayed to their catch bucket and there the fish was, swimming around in the tight space trying to find a way out. It looked much less scary like that. She reaches in and gives it a poke and that sent it into a fresh flurry of activity, trying ever harder to out run its predator but it had no where to go.
Rina had been promised lots of fresh fish. And sushi. Mmm. Sushi. The idea of tasty sushi overcome her earlier reservations of handling the fish and she reached in to grab the fish, giving it a look over. She licks her lips. Sushi was raw, so what if she just had a little bite now? That wouldn't be very different, would it?
Maya is glad to see Rina was keeping herself occupied, but while she was admiring their catch, the pole bowed. Another fish had taken the bait! She reached out for the pole but Rina was too busy admiring her catch. "Sis!" She cried out. They had quite the day ahead of them.
