Doma (critique requested)

Star_Ringer

Doma was named after the Angel of Silence, as he took the longest among his rookery siblings to make a single sound.

As he grew older, he became angry that the Avalon Clan was not following what Katharine and the Magus had told them were the traditions of the Wyvern Clan. They were being raised by humans, in a keep with nothing to defend from, and they all had names.

Doma longed to leave Avalon, and see the castle Katharine told the gargoyle children stories of. But the Magus told Doma that they could never leave the island.

Katharine thought she could temper his anger by telling Doma about the woman who she wrongfully assumed had been his mother. She thought his anger and displeasure living the way they did had come from her. He angrily reminded her of the stories she herself had told, how all gargoyle children belonged to the entire clan. Recognizing specific progenitors was a human custom. Just like having names was a human custom.

Doma forsook his name, and refused to use the names of his siblings. But the clan's apparent ambivalence to his wishes finally drove him to leave the keep, and vanish into the frontier of Avalon. The young gargoyles and their human caretakers searched all over the island for Doma.

He was never found.
