"Erika? I'm coming in, okay?"

"What for? Don't you have your own room? Go away!"

The sliding metal doors smoothly wooshed apart, revealing August already shaking her head crossly even before she saw the state of her little sister's floor. "Really, Erika? You've had this entire weekend to yourself, and you still haven't so much as touched your room? Mother and I have both been telling you nearly hourly to put your things into some kind of order!"

Erika turned back to her tablet, paws swinging up and down without a care in the world. "Ugh, don't remind me! It's bad enough when one of you keeps on nagging me over and over and over, but the two of you working together is driving me crazy! And I did NOT have this entire weekend to myself, I've barely had a single moment's rest!"

August's eyes narrowed. "Really."

"Really!" With an exaggerated groan and a roll of her eyes, Erika explained, "it's my dumb terrestrial science professor. He gave me homework, again, and on a weekend, even!"

"That... That is indeed a thing that professors do, Erika, yes. I'm glad you're finally picking up on that after your years in school."

Erika gave her big sister a scowl, clearly frustrated by the lack of understanding and sympathy. "Well they aren't supposed to give kids THIS much! That dumb slave driver doesn't want me to have ANY time off, but I outsmarted him! I got almost all my homework done early, so I'd have all the time I wanted to relax and goof off. Hah!"

"Wait, wait, slow down- ugh!" August took a half-step into the room, paw gently settling down on a fragile cracked globe. She instantly yanked it back, but the slight touch was enough to end up splashing a small amount of warm magma in the hallway and leaving a faint imprint on the world's crust. "Erika! I'm really serious, you need to get this room cleaned before you do any more playing on your VR or tablet or anything else at all!"

"Don't look at me, you're the one who didn't look where she was walking before she stepped in SOMEONE ELSE'S room! And don't you try to tell mom it's my fault you got magma all over the hallway, that's on you!"

August leaned against the doorway, wiping her paw off on the frame. "I'll sweep that up in a minute. You and I need to have a chat first. This room is an absolute disaster- and what's that about homework? Mother said you told her you didn't have any this weekend-"

"Tattletale!" Erika flopped her tablet onto the bed and threw her head back with another outrageous sigh. "Why are you bugging mom and sticking your muzzle into my business? That's super totally not fair!" After a moment's pause, she picked her tablet up again and returned her focus back to it.

"Because we're worried about you, Erika. Your grades are just as bad as ever and- look at me when I'm talking to- oh, nevermind. Just tell me about this homework you clearly do have, and how much of it's already done. If I'm going to have to swing past the corner store tonight to get you supplies for whatever you were supposed to have done, I'll at least have to know what you'll be needing."

Erika beamed. "You don't have to get anything! And I'm mostly completely almost entirely done. So you can just go back to minding your own business and let me have fun for once!"

"Erika..."

The two sisters stared at each other silently for a moment. August began to tap a toe impatiently, and Erika continued to wiggle her toes uncaringly.

"... FiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIINE!" The Jolteon dropped her tablet onto her bed again and crossed her arms in a huff. "I had to go around and get a whole bunch of planet samples from all over the place. All sorts of different worlds. So I did, I only got a couple from the same planet and made sure that all of them looked like different places!"

August nodded. "I do actually believe that. That's the sort of thing you'd do even if your homework was NOT to do it."

Pretending to ignore the comment, Erika turned up her nose. "Well, that's it! I'm all done. That's the hard part all wrapped up. So I'm free to play!"

"And you aren't meant to do anything with those samples...?"

"... Justafewproblemstoanswerforeachsample, but-"

"And how many of them have you solved?" August gave her sister a few moments to answer. "I take it that's 'none of them,' then."

"I put one of the samples in the microscope already!" Erika pointed at one of her shelves. Then another shelf. Then she hesitantly gave the room a quick glance-over before just ambiguously gesturing to her entire floor. "It's, ah, around here. With the samples. Some of the samples."

"Erika, I'm going to go get our mother. I'll be back in a moment so we can all help make sure you do at least one homework assignment this year, even if the two of us have to babysit you for every moment of it."

"Aaaaaaaawwwwwwwww! Big sisters are the worst! Go trip on your own tail!" Erika turned away and huffed as her sister's fluffy fifth limb swished out of view. So much for her fun and adventures, ugh...
