Standing Stones on the Isle of Maranaga (color) (critique requested)

SpiderMilkshake

Color version of a sketched landscape from earlier... a little glimpse of the inner regions of Mara Island. ^^

This is one of the most centrally-located landmarks on Mara--difficult to find unless one already knows where it is amidst the thickly forested plateau at the island's center. One of the safest places for maranaga from both garuda and human explorers, with a ring of eight megaliths carved with the symbols of each of Mara island's regional clans, each between fifteen and twenty feet tall. Most of the trees in this clearing are kapok trees... which among humans has a lot of strong superstition associated with them. This spot is not entirely in any clan's territory, so it is something of a designated meeting place between chieftains in the clans.

Visible symbols:
Far left, swirly-do thing: for the Clan that inhabits the northern shores, full of rocky beaches and cliffsides.
Next left, triangle-do: for the Clan that inhabits the valley on the northeastern corner of the island, which has its own intricate karst systems.
Next to rightmost, circley three-dash thingie: for the Clan of the northwestern parts of the island, which is characterized by more semi-arid open stretches among the forests as well as bodies of still freshwater (mostly ponds but a few small lakes).
Rightmost, upside-down keyhole thingie: for the Clan that lives in the eastern coastal region, which is a long skinny fringe of humid rainforest wedged between ocean and the foothills of the plateau.

The rest of the symbols are not visible from this angle, but there are also Clans in the western plateau (almost mountainous), southwestern mangroves, southeastern dry forests, and southern coastal (which is a mix of forest and rocky outcrops) regions. The majority of the Maranaga characters I've got so far come from the southern coastal clan, and so far only Muur (yellow-magenta guy ^^) and that unnamed cobra naga come from other clans.

Probably important to note that for Maranaga, clans are not defined by blood relation, and moving from one clan to another is as easy as packing up and going for it... It's more of a "I'm from Oklahoma/I'm from Alberta, Canada" thing than a competitive tribal hierarchy... And if you move cities, you're just from a different city, no matter who your parents are or where you were born... So it's pretty typical for a Mara to be born in the northern Clan and as an adult just slither off a little southwest, and be a member of the Southwest Clan regardless of where they were born. Mara find this helps with conflict resolution too, as in cases where a rebellious young naga dislikes the leadership of one clan, they can just go somewhere else rather than start somethin'. XD Of course, if they're bastardly and are just breaking all kinds of Mara morés... they're probably going to be in trouble no matter the clan.

And finally, I like how this digital deal turned out. :3
