History: Tyson Brand’s parents were involved with Team Rocket, so they were never very well-liked in their home town of Cinnabar. It wasn’t long before Ty grew tired of the dirty looks and of being treated like a criminal, so he went to the Cinnabar gym and begged Blaine to take him as an apprentice. After a bit of heated discussion, Blaine reluctantly gave in and trained him, though a bit harshly.
Eventually, Ty began to notice that Blaine was losing more and more battles as he grew older and repeatedly asked to take over as gym leader. Blaine refused every time, saying he wasn’t ready yet. Ty was soon fed up with waiting and went off on his own.
He’d acquired the rest of the Kanto badges and several badges from the other regions and built up a reputation of his own before returning home to a warm welcome. He challenged Blaine and defeated him, finally convincing him to pass the torch…sort of.
Ty now takes care of the battles and handles most of the other responsibilities, but Blaine insists on overseeing.
