Since it is indeed Draw a Centaur Day, I felt compelled to actually take part this year because I quite like centaurs. Honestly I shouldn't be doing this since I'm so damn busy but I wanted to at least get some kind of loose sketch done. So have a picture of my wood nymph Dhoquis having a frolic in some Vernal wildflowers.
Done in the moleskine sketchbook with a mechanical pencil, blending stump and a Col-Erase pencil. Only took me about 30 minutes this time! I'm starting to get faster.
Goodness, thank you! I try to make even my chaotic messy sketches look interesting (seriously, the amount of erasing I had to do to clean this one up is...unreal). I'd actually like to revisit this sometime and make it into a full blown polished piece because I love rendering outdoor scenery...
Oh, sounds interesting, I wouldn't mind seeing that. :D God, I have such traumatic memories from drawing in a more traditional way so I admire that you are going down that path.. as you said, lots of erasing, and lots of such tinkering.
Unfortunately being so busy lately with more important artistic obligations will force me to put such a project in the "Eventually - To be Determined" pile, but if an idea is good enough it always sticks with me.
My brain embraces tinkering and fiddling! It's a natural state for me these days. I'm sorry to hear you have some negative feelings regarding such, but it's a great time to be alive in the days of digital art so one way or another you have a creative outlet!
Oh I apologize for writing more comments than necessary, I just felt tempted to reply to this too. :D Take your time though with your projects, I personally know how it feels to have other things you may need to attend to, even if they are desired or undesired.
And I do know how tinkering can be fun, it is just that I get so nervous about ruining my traditional drawings because if you do too much to them you kind of ruin them, and you have no CTRL+Z option really. xD Which is why I admire your courage when it comes to that. My traditional drawing process is more quick, ferocious, messy, and then I just forget to keep working on it, haha.
Last I checked, there's no such thing as a comment limit! And if there is, I did not get the memo so if you get caught by the Discourse Police tell them I made you do it.
Aha, I understand completely. The pressure of doing well and not wasting traditional resources for fear of it being unfix-able, yes? I've heard from multiple other artists of this same problem and it usually makes them stagnate if they don't find a way around that line of thinking. These days I think of each of my mistakes as a stepping stone as much as my successes are, so I suppose that is primarily how I'm able to get around the feeling of failure. Digital art is most definitely a special kind of freedom though, I admit.
Oh, I see.. Hmm, your drawings and comment inspire me though to try and give traditional art a second try! :D And I am glad you don't mind the comments, haha, I am a very.. talkative fellow.
But yes, I can see I am not the only one that struggles with this kind of art then, it seems.. But I shall now try harder! As you said, wasting resources is more or less the main issue. Thank you for the inspiration. :)
