It's been a fairly long time since I've posted anything regarding my Alteir worldbuilding project, so here's a little something I cranked out a few days ago quickly between some other things.
I've hinted at it in a few other past submissions, but I've been slowly working out a complete anatomical redesign and overhaul of my oldest race that populates the land of Alteir, the L'tahr (pronounced Leh-TAR). I'll be using my character Topaz as the base for these concepts and exercises since she's the one that I'm most familiar with, and she's getting some slight upgrades in the process anyway.
One of the biggest hurdles I've been faced with ever since I was a kid and trying to imagine these creatures realistically in my head were their wings, especially how they were properly folded or tucked away. I fudged it for the longest time and simply glossed over the details but if I want these guys to not only be convincing and unique as a race, I need to address this. I've been increasingly looking to dinosaurs and proto-birds for clues. That moment when I realize it would make much more sense for their wings to be modeled off of pterosaurs instead of modern day avians...
This page is by no means the end all and be all, since this is literally one of my first forays into it. It's going to take a lot more roughs and ideas before these guys are where I want them design-wise.
