~Trade~ Ignis Fatuus

Sparkyopteryx

And finished! Done for the most awesome psychoseby depicting her beautiful little Asura lady. This piece was an absolute joy to do, and I learned more than a few new tricks and ideas as far as my developmental process and marker skills go. This pretty much confirms that I'm in love with drawing Asura so there is also that.

Her palette was fairly simple and easy to execute, but I also wanted to incorporate some kind of lurid green lighting (her being a necromancer and all) and damn it all I was having a hard time with all of that white space, so a simple geometric motif was added to give a sort of free-floating in space feel. I tend to render and color metal surfaces better than clothing but this time I think I pulled it off pretty well. I'd like to give a special thanks to my friend Toshabi for being an ace and gifting me a bunch of new Prismacolor markers, as many of them ended up being integral to coloring this piece.

I think I've run my mouth enough. I apologize if the upswing in Guild Wars 2 fanart is bothersome to some of my followers but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

Done on smooth bristol with Copic and Prismacolor markers and fineliners. Estimated time between starting to completion unknown. 11'' x 8.5''.

Very striking! I have got to get my part of our trade started so I can see what you do with the sketch you did for me!

Thank you! And it's no rush; I still have the sketch safely stored away and ready to transfer whenever.

But I want the finished picture from you and I want to do something you will like...just have to get myself motivated!

If you're having trouble getting inspired with my current request, I can rescind it no problem; I'm more than happy to discuss alternatives if it just isn't working with your muse.

well, if you have another idea it might work better for me, but if I have options it might inspire something either way

    Amazing!
The lighting is very striking. I particularly like the subtle textures on the coat, which also give it a bit of weight.

Thank you! I'm really trying to push for more dramatic and interesting lighting in my work this year so colored pieces give me a great opportunity to practice it. Doing those textures in her tunic was a lot of fun, now I just need to try to tackle brocade, hah...

It's really paying off. It really gives a sense of drama (and to my synesthesia brain, it sounds like a bunch of violins hitting a sudden high and loud note).
Oh gosh, lots of details. That would be cool to see.

This piece turned out strikingly well, those freakin' colors! Geometric designs was a great choice given its relevance to Asura.
