Inktober #29: Downtime

Sparkyopteryx

Most people that don't know Topaz sufficiently would say that she has no concept of leisure or relaxation. They are in fact, thundering imbeciles. In truth, as any that know her more personally can attest, working and thinking for her is as much necessary as it is her form of stress-relief.

I'll try not to run my mouth about this picture but it does feature my main character prominently and more importantly, illustrates me in the process of overhauling and polishing her race's design. Also me squeezing in more time for scenes! Once Absinthe got one in her "Routine Maintenance" piece earlier this month, I had to do one with Topaz as well (holy shit it's seriously been over a year since I've properly drawn her outside of sketches?! Oh man...).

I wanted to give a glimpse into her work area in her house better without overwhelming it with details, so outside of her funny mobile and kinetic sculpture collection and one of the big picture windows looking out into Soltice, I kept it abstract. Also designing proper furniture to suit her physiology properly was fun; a thing I've thought of extensively but had no opportunity to draw it until now.

Done with Staedtler pigment liners and ballpoints on smooth bristol. 9''x12'' Character, her race the L'tahr and her setting Alteir are my intellectual property.

This one's up there with my favorite Inktober drawings of yours. I've already told you my thoughts on this one, but once again Topaz is awesome. I like the redesign you've taken with them so far, they make more sense and generally have even more character.

    Also that house <3

Thank you. L'tahr in my mind since the very beginning are always more than simply bird people, and I really wanted their appearance to reflect that. As I mentioned, these sort of changes I've had in mind for literally years but I didn't have the know-how and expertise to pull it off, but I think I can finally. Her design here still isn't set in stone but it's a lot closer to what I really want.

In that case I am very much looking forward to seeing how they come along.

I almost feel bad for not seeing this piece sooner. I feel like I'm due to rummage through your gallery once more.

I always find that these single-colored (Well, duo colored if you'd like to be technical) pieces are so appealing to the eye.

Clutter and detritus tends to accumulate regularly around here so yes I recommend an occasional in-depth perusal to make sure something didn't get buried in the dust.

I love black or monochrome with subtle accent colors. If I could I try to sneak it in there as much as possible.
