Sel the Seer by Sparkyopteryx

Sel the Seer

Sparkyopteryx

Despite being primarily an herb and plant witch, Selvamille still has much use for quartz crystal in her divinations if she wants a more in-depth reading than what the surface of herbal tea can provide. Her "broom" of heather sprigs cleanses and makes doubly sure no psychic "background noise" is around to distract her. She looks pretty deep in concentration...

Selvamille my unicorn witch character as a commission for Teiirka, 1 of 3 to be precise, so you guys better not get tired of her! :P Regardless, it's interesting and exciting to have multiple opportunities to draw her.

Certainly a step forward in my graphite rendering skills; I went for very soft and natural lighting for her again, since it compliments her so well, and I was trying to mimic the same sort of light in the reference I used. Speaking of which, credits go to Mizzd-stock on deviantArt for helpful references and inspiration in this piece, specifically These.

This is a commission so I'd prefer no critique on it, thank you. Done with Prismacolor pencils on Strathmore natural white 9x12 sketch paper. Character is mine, and art copyright is jointly owned by myself and the commissioner.

I love how serene this piece is, what depths of wonder one can imagine going on within that crystal and in her own mind. She is an absolutely gorgeous character.

Isn't she? I gotta say, I think I really hit on something with her character design; kept it simple and organic, and she ended up coming out wonderful.

Golly Gee Gosh! I've always loved your graphite work!

    Also, I like the tail.

I really dig that you incorporated plants into this piece as well. If I recall correctly your first drawing of this character had a lot of plant life, which I just adore. Are those maybe fox gloves or a similar species?

You recall correctly! This character definitely represents my side as a gardener and love of botany, so naturally I have to put plants everywhere in her images. You're close on that guess by the way; they're bluebells! Funny you should mention foxgloves though; they're one of my favorite flowers and in the future I want to incorporate them into a piece, probably one with her in it, lol.

Yay foxgloves! I like the purple and white variety you can get at the garden shops. I guessed foxglove mostly on account of size. X3 I like how you incorporate them, puts me in mind of Mucha who is one of my art heroes.

Uhh, think if them as a magically-enhanced Faerie variety of bluebells! Yes.

Mucha and his other artistic counterparts in the Art Noveau movement are an endless source of wonder and inspiration for me. Stay tuned; the third commission involving her is going to be heavily inspired by his work.

Now that is a terrifying thought. I bet they ring like their name implies!

            Eeee!
