Stone & Flora by Sparkyopteryx

Stone & Flora

Sparkyopteryx

It's finished! It's finally finished. Literally the longest and most involved singular art project I've ever done. I've been picking at this thing for months. In fact, I think the first thumbnail I completed for this was back in mid-November. Goodness. Now that I'm done it feels like I've dropped off of some kind of precipice! I would like to give special thanks to teiirka for being such an awesome and patient commissioner and also liking my character Selvamille to commission me to draw her so much!

Many new things were learned in the process of this piece; namely, how to do realistic stone walls, plants and clouds. A myriad of miscellaneous references were used here and there as well (including looking out my window earlier this year for the clouds). My fondness for surreal and dream-like landscapes kind of came to the fore here as well.

I honestly have nothing else to say about this piece, other than I'm happy, relieved and satisfied that I am done. I'm getting a print of it for my personal collection and then I'm sending it off!

Done on an 11"x14" sheet of natural Strathmore drawing paper with 2H, H, HB, 2B, 4B & 8B graphite pencils, a blending stump and kneaded eraser. I worked very sporadically on this, so I'm not sure how long it took me all told...maybe 80 to 90 hours, possibly more? Character and art is mine, commissioned by teiirka.

Thank you so much for the time you put into this, It shows and I couldn't be happier! :D

It will be matted and framed ASAP.

I'll probably think of more to say later but for now, <3<3<3

I gotta say, I didn't realize I could actually do a piece like this until I actually went ahead and did it; a definite level up for me as an artist.

The scan makes the border look slightly warped but in the actual piece it's quite level, so it shouldn't give you too much grief when you frame it!

And I can't thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to create it!

I'm still at a loss for what to say about this that serves the picture well. Let's assume I had 1,000 really worthwhile words. For what it's worth, I'm proud of you for how amazing this picture turned out. It's gorgeous, and I hope you continue to feel this way about it too for a long time.

Also, I wish to express a dream-like desire to mug the commissioner and take it all for myself. MINE! ALLLL MIIIINE!
(I wish to state that this is entirely a joke, not to be taken seriously.)
