Creyroos facial studies by Sparkyopteryx

Creyroos facial studies

Sparkyopteryx

First submission and art for 2014! Featuring a couple of busts of MisterMidnight's longstanding manticore character, Creyroos. Not....really sure why I decided to do these, other than I really wanted to draw him all of a sudden yesterday as a warm-up, and to see how well I could draw his face, since it's been quite a while. This also makes a good example for future commissioners to show how I can draw the same character in completely different styles. Nifty! A bit rough, but hey.

A side goal of mine this year is to revisit characters of mine and his that either have not been drawn in a long time, or not at all. I love to see the bit of improvement marked by these milestones; for instance, here is my last graphite drawing of him from a couple years ago: http://postimg.org/image/5w9r27thn/ Quite the difference...

I've already told you everything I could think to say on this, but I can at least say again that I love it. His features are so striking, like the whip of a stinger-tail!

I especially like what you did with the attitudes of each style. The linework with the ink really emphasizes the ferocity of the mood of the character whereas the softer pencil work really adds to the passiveness of the mood. Very well done.

Thank you kindly; I try to make each medium or style portray as close to the desired mood as possible, since I've noticed execution of the subject reflects certain emotions almost as much as the subject itself...

I do like how that mouth looks. 8>

I know, right? Certainly gives his face an extra unsettling quality to it, which I think a manticore should have in spades.
