This is an example of what I normally do with detailed inked commissions; I did this one two years ago but I think it would still be appropriate as an example. The commissioner wanted a Celtic female troll decked out in Pictish woad tattoos and gave me full artistic freedom with it. Even to this day, it was one of my favorite commissions I've ever done. This photo was used as a pose reference for it: http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/gallery/\#/dyx6kh Many other miscellaneous references were used, i.e. for her spear, tattoos and horns, just so I could make absolutely sure they were accurate.
