Continuing with the older uploads; this one I finished back in January of 2011. Despite it's age, I still quite like it so I figured maybe a few on here might also like it. Especially for enthusiasts of strange bat-fae shapeshifters I suppose, ha.
This was an experiment in technique, media and approach. I used my brushpens for this one; these things are awesome. They are even more so when you dip them in water and blend it like watercolor paint. Its just too bad I did this on paper that doesn't like to be wet! But now I know. I need to do more pieces with those pens. Jeeze, I even procrastinate on trying media now. My reference/inspiration was from this piece: http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com.....set=24\#/dwddyg If you don't have a dA account, you're kind of SOL though. That fellow's work is amazing, and I use him for figure references regularly. I highly recommend him.
Tenebra is the character's name, and she has a rather mysterious and convoluted back story; I'll be posting more about her in her own profile. Needless to say, she's stuck between two forms and two worlds. Sometimes literally.
Done with water-soluble brushpens, Staedtler pigment liners and white gel pen for accents.
I loooved the color use on this one, it looks like an early dawn or late sunset. Then again, I have a thing for atmospheric colors, so take that as you will, haha.
I do too actually, especially cloudscapes (if you notice a lot of my work with backgrounds, I don't usually render entirely clear skies, lol).
I've always had a love-hate relationship with fire in my pictures; on the one hand I can get pretty carried away with the flame effects and have fun with it, on the other it almost always turns out weird and cartoony. But then again, I haven't tried doing it recently so I might have to take a stab at it again in the near future.
