A lovely little spur-of-the-moment ACEO I did today to try out my new Derwent Inktense pencils. I also need to get more birds into my gallery, so what better way than make bird portrait ACEOs? My scanner really hates watercolors and the like though and seems to like picking up every little vagary of texture and color with these, hence why it's a bit washed out-looking. Oi.

Depicted is the unusual King Vulture from Central and South America. These stunning birds figured very importantly in Mayan religious symbolism, and various parts of the bird, especially the feathers and blood, were used to treat various ailments. I think vultures in general need more appreciation...
