Laird by Sparkyopteryx

Laird

Sparkyopteryx

New character for MisterMidnight. Like, when I mean new I mean he was created and developed just this week, heh. And after so long I finally made my other half get a horse character, ha! This originally was going to be a reference, you know with all the annotations and everything, but he came out so g-d gorgeous I couldn't bear to mar the awesome picture with stupid reference crap. This also didn't take that long, sketch to finish. Surprisingly, I was on a roll by the time it came for coloring. Learned a bit more about handling of markers, and this is by far one of my favorite marker pieces I've done to date.

For those that are not familiar with Scottish mythology, he is an each-uisge, a horse-like fae that has the frightening ability to lure humans (especially maidens) to a watery grave where they then devour the hapless victim, save for the liver. He also has a horse form and a humanoid form, which I'll draw at some point as well. He's also now officially part of my "Uncanny Hosts" setting and is in the beginnings of a rather torrid (and forbidden) relationship with my Nettie.

His name is Laird, and he is delighted to meet you.

Prismacolor markers, Copics, Pilot fineliner & white gel pen on heavy sketch paper. 9x12

I adore this design. It seems he also has a few attributes related to the Kelpie which are seriously creepy yet gorgeous.

The each-uisge is very closely related to kelpies, actually, save that the former inhabit lakes and ponds and are regarded as more vicious and dangerous, while the latter inhabit running water such as rivers and streams instead. They both share the disturbing appetite for tasty human flesh, though!
