Waternecked Drake by snowhiss

Waternecked Drake

snowhiss

Waternecked drakes are diurnal creatures often seen lazing about in hot and arid climates, necks and tails covered in dirt to protect the heat sensitive skin.
When a waternecked drake finds a viable water source, it will dip it's entire face and neck into the water and drink from it. The neck is known to store up to 1 gallon of water. It can stay hydrated even on the hottest days with minimal effort; the water will trickle slowly into the body.

The tail of a waternecked drake serves as a secondary water storage unit. When the neck begins to exceed it's capacity, water will flow down the back (an unseen process, as the water flows beneath the skin) and into it's tail. Often enough, once water is in the tail, water rarely ever seems to leave it.

The neck and tail of a drake that has no stored water will often look very cloudy and solid.

These are prey animals solely because of their water storing features.

Both males and females have pouches in which to carry the young / objects it may find useful.

The beginnings of a species! Here is the first public Waternecked Drake. More info/rules to come!

Changed the style to a bit more flat looking. I think it looks better.
