Kawauso Seal hanko

SnowblindOtter

Finally, after three years of hard work and a lot of frustration, heartbreak, hell, and hardship in my personal life; two jobs, two dead pets, two failed relationships, a week in isolation and 3 months on suicide watch, I finished my greatest ambition for my identity as an artist: An oriental seal stamp to sign my artwork.

This took 36 months to design, and went through over 100 different design iterations and re-designs from an original draft of a tattoo design I had drawn 4 years prior.

The seal carved from Welsh Slate that I recovered from a destroyed, high-end pool table. There were no power tools used in this process; the whole thing was done by hand from sawing the chunk to meticulously filing, sanding, and polishing the sides down to exactly 1,500 x 810 thousandths of an inch before finally, and painstakingly, carving the reverse image into the stone. Thanks to the ultimate generosity of one of my close friends, I received the ink-seal paste that I needed to make it work as a birthday gift this year and it shattered my expectations.
