Hm, since I ended up actually throwing this on 4chan just to shitpost…

This is Galena, she’s a psiker from the PSI Corps. She is one of the characters I have actually never shown but I like her a lot. If you don’t behave she will reverse gravity.

But that’s not why I like her so much. I like her because she’s a schizophrenic, and lives with her disorder day to day.

So, she’s forever on meds. She doesn’t feel much. Sometimes she sees people that don’t exist and sometimes she has a psychotic episode. That’s her life, which is statistically bound to be a lot shorter than the average and of much lesser value.

You know, the life of the mentally disabled isn’t glamorous. It’s debilitating. You can’t make heroes out of them, otherwise, you’re missing the point. It’s a disability. There’s no perk, and you can’t just be kick-ass anyway. You sleep your life away. I do make Galena as a character, and one day maybe I will have the opportunity to show that she is still more than her disease.

She’s still a person, with her own personality, her own thoughts, and her own desires in life. She’s awesome because she is incredibly sarcastic and bears her disability like it was just a funny allergy to milk. She knows karate and, of course, she has psionic powers.

Imagine this. A party of young people going on an adventure, and they’re all figuring everything out.

And someone passes their arm around your shoulder, and tells you that it’s okay. To be a schiz. Not that you ever needed validation about something you never chose, but your party, your true friends, they like you as you come. It’s about sticking together. We like our schizo. I really like my little Galena.

Please remember, don’t romance disease. Disease is a terrible curse. You can romance the people that bear it.
