Gunstock Warclub - Work In Progress (critique requested)

Smokepaw

So! It was raining today. In an attempt at keeping the house from smelling like wet wolf, it was about time to make a mess.

Experimenting at making some good ol' fashioned weaponry of the eastern Native American sort. This is fashioned in the style, nature, shape and functionality of what is known as a "Gunstock Warclub" Here's a Wikipedia article on what they are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunstock_war_club

It is made of tulip wood, or yellow poplar, which is a readily-available and affordable North American hardwood and would historically be used for this sort of item in lieu of hickory or maple. The blade is forged steel, which I set into the wood with a hammered brass pin.

This is a work-in-progress. It will be adorned with a few simple but appropriate designs burned into the wood, then stained and finished with brass-head tacks. The handle will be leather-wrapped.

This particular piece has a future with Qzurr. Given some time, I may be making a few more of these. We will have to wait and see!

I like it! I think it would be really neat to attempt something similar with more primitive tools (not to mention time and patience!) to give ti even more of an authentic look, but that's just an opinion! I am by no means good at wood working. I do love working with my hands, though. Very cool!
