Mareth is a turling - what the rest of the galaxy calls an artificially created organic creature, usually created through genetic experimentation. In her youth, Mareth escaped captivity in a stolen space ship she'd simulated flying in advanced tests of intellect. Since then, she's grown into an ace pilot who takes any work she can find with her flying skills, most commonly as a smuggler. She may have stemmed from a skunk of Earth, but Mareth has proven to be a resourceful and independent pilot with a fully developed unique personality and set of skills. For a turling, she is highly capable, despite her rather reject lifestyle.

Mareth lives aboard her ship, Moon-Among-Stars, with a pet legitimate skunk named Venson, always on the move.
