This was my last project for my Painting and Sculpture classes. I finished those more than a month ago but forgot to upload them, so I thought now would be a very good time to do so!

For this project we had to choose a subject we wanted to explore, and then we were given complete freedom as to what to make. I wanted to work on the topic of gender since the beginning, since I think it's an unknown subject for many people and I wanted to let them learn about it. I began working on some ideas I could make but they either were too direct, or looked too bland.

After a bit of thinking, I considered I could represent the differences between body and mind by using sexual dimorphism on animals, and so I chose a deer's antlers and a peacock's tail feathers. This way, a deer that was born male would snap her antlers, and a peacock that was born female would put those long, eye-catching feathers as his tail.

Those were painted on 20x30cm fibreboards using acrylic paint which was applied with my own fingers for the figures, and with a brush for the antlers and feathers. I wanted to make a clear difference between something that is blurry and does not describe the characters properly, and the parts they hold in front of themselves, as those are very defined and should be the ones to determine how each of them feels.

I have to say that the outcome was better than I had anticipated, and my teacher was very impressed so I think it's safe to say that I managed to show what I had in mind :)
