While the P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter, it saw use among other the air forces of other nations such as Britain and Free France. While its track record wasn't exactly impressive for the most part, it achieved its glory in the hands of Soviet pilots on the Eastern Front. Used primarily for air-to-air combat and operating mostly at low-to-medium altitudes, the Airacobra would become the aircraft in which half of the Soviets' top scoring aces logged the majority of their kills.

Here we see an officer of the VVS (Soviet air force) resting on the wing of his bird while a member of the ground crew paints on the pilot's latest kills.
