Simon's adoptive mother, Ada (a white rat with red eyes), watching over him as the stasis tube applies various cybernetics to his body, repairing damage brought on by the unethical experiments that she had rescued him from.

I originally didn't have any real intention of giving Simon a family in his backstory, but I've started to think about ways to grow the character beyond a collection of bytes that lives entirely in a virtual world. In this setting, Ada is a skilled cyberneticist and had stumbled into the experiments that a young Simon had been subjected to. At considerable risk to herself, she rescued him and repaired the damage done in her own cybernetics lab, raising him as her own son.
