There is something about the way this piece was done that is really appealing! Something about the selective use of the lineart, or the subtle texture overlay, or the nice soft value shift... but it really caught my eye.
Oh wow, thank you very much! Im very wary about my line art hehe(I shake really bad when I art and even having stablizers and what not :C) and I love soft but bright colors so much o3o
Augh, that is frustrating! I've found Manga Studio to be the best for built-in line smoothing, though maybe you've already tried that... I couldn't pull off decent line art until I used a Cintiq. But that's not really accessible for everyone depending on their situation :C
Anyway, I think that your using line art in a way that is really cohesive with the rest of the coloring (like how on the shoulder some scales are fully lined, others just sort of edged, and then it fades down into a lack of line) is a nice enough effect to counter the imperfection of the lines' smoothness in some sections.
haha I would kill for a cintiq. At the moment Im using a very cheap model called a Huion.
I do try to make the lineart work someways, some im very happy and wiggly to learn that it reads like that. Again thank you so much o3o it means a lot when someone I admire takes the time to comment like this
Thoughtful execution often trumps technical limitation! It's not hard to find people who can do clean lineart, but finding people who take an interesting approach to each piece is a less common thing. So, play to your strengths and people will notice that more than any imperfections!
And oh gosh, no problem! Now it's my turn to be humbled, I appreciate your saying so :)
