Ripped from a video someone else shot. This is one of two shells I built back in September 2012 (the other was a 6" that I made a mess of). This one was made with the stars I manufactured a few days before.

Unfortunately, the stars either didn't dry all the way, or the binder didn't get enough moisture to activate. Because of this, they were not strong enough to survive the shell break. What should have been 4 nice orange streaks coming out of the burst is a barely visible cloud of orange at the center of the break (which showed up much more clearly in person).

Shell construction is plastic hemispheres, sealed with MEK and reinforced with strapping tape. Burst is commercial Meal D on rice hulls, boosted with whistle mix. The red stars are also commercial. Could have been broken a bit harder, but otherwise not bad for only my 3rd attempt.
