The Moonweaver Chronicles Part 13

"I regret to inform you." The first one said, "That we will not be backing down. Give up and we can take you with us while you're still unscathed."

"Don't bother..." The second one told the first, he summoned a scythe, around which magic circles began to be drawn. "I think the younger one has made their position quite clear. In which case..." He sliced the scythe through the air in front of him. A hole appeared in the air, as if he had ripped through the dimensional wall and a huge yet concentrated torrent of wind shot right at me, I hadn't been prepared dodge to the side and so I got hit in the process of dodging it. The blast tore through part of my arm and the pain I felt was immense.

"Are you prepared to surrender?" He asked me. "Because if not..." His glance shifted, I followed it and there was Vincent.

"YOUR FIGHT IS WITH ME!" I yelled, charging at him as his scythe pointed at Vincent. It wasn't until I got closer that I realized he had been pointing a finger towards me. A hole appeared in front of it and a smaller version of his previous attack hit me head on, smashing through my shoulder. Crap, I had fallen for his taunt.

"That is enough, quit picking on him." Vincent's words were loud, even though he wasn't shouting. "Discordant Chorus!" He practically sang as a horrible noise filled the air.

"Your song uses the air as its medium to travel to and reach my ears." He observed. "I can control the currents however..." A huge wind suddenly drowned out my ability to hear anything.

Suddenly, a strategy dawned upon me, his defence against Vincent's attack had been too good, it was a weakness in itself. Jumped at an angle and then again, I was behind him. I kicked him hard, sending him right towards Vincent.

In an instant he was impaled on Vincent's sword, "I wonder... does that defence of yours, the one that drowns out the noise, work when I attack like this?" He tapped his blade and it began to vibrate as it sent the music through the creatures entire body.

In a futile attempt to block out the noise he put his hands to his ears. This probably wasn't the kind of attack that could be blocked in such a rudimentary fashion though. Slowly, the struggles of the creature died and it slumped, Vincent pulled his blade from the creatures body and it dropped to the ground with an unceremonious thud.

"It would seem that the answer is no..." Vincent observed aloud.

"When my allies are incapacitated or killed that way, my abilities increase threefold." The wolf said, "The sacrifices of my comrades will not be overlooked, I shall slay you fiends for daring to just kill someone I care about." He summoned two axes chained together and began to swing one in a circle, building up momentum.

"Uh... you guys are the ones who picked a fight with us actually..." I pointed out

"HOW DARE YOU TRY TO JUSTIFY THE SLAUGHTER OF MY FRIEND." He charged at Vincent, he was clearly following in his partners footsteps.

"Roar of the Lightning Dragon." I inhaled and shot a lightning bolt from my mouth at him. He absorbed it using the axe that he was holding and then redirected it at me using the moving axe. I charged it head on, intending to close the distance. I didn't know much about this weapon but all I had to do was get between him and it and he wouldn't be able to strike me.

Suddenly, from nowhere, Vincent tackled me, it wasn't until the blast passed where I was that I realized that he had saved my life, that axe had been following the lightning and reeked of demon slaying enchantments. If he hadn't shoved me out of the way, I might have died.

He pulled the axe back and began spinning it, this time it was faster, the way that it cut through the air was impressive, this thing was going to kill us if connected with either of us.

"This will keep your sound based magic from reaching me, lament nobody taught you better than to show your enemy your techniques." He surrounded himself in a sphere of water. His axe still spinning above his head and outside the sphere.

Vincent took his blade and flicked it, he then sliced through the water, "languorous requiem." The surface of the water broke then repaired itself before it began to vibrate and ripple. Suddenly the water sphere exploded outwards and its caster collapsed, his axes falling uselessly to the ground and fading away. "You should lament that nobody taught you better than to think that water isn't a medium sound can travel through."

Vincent collapsed, not so quickly though that I couldn't catch him. Locking the creatures in an illusion that would keep them in a comatose state, I carried Vincent on my back with his arms wrapped around my neck, I dragged the other two, each by a leg. We need to get ahead of this and that is only going to happen by interrogating these two.

I could sense Raptyr had found a place to make camp. I headed in their general direction and it didn't take long to finally reach the spot. I sent out a signal for Rin and Mazurek to come back and before long we were all together. Rin administered medical treatment to Vincent the same way she had me and I focused on making some rudimentary chains to hold our new captives in place.

This was stressful already, it looks like we would be stuck here indefinitely and there were creatures trying to hunt us. It was going to be a serious pain to deal with all of this and I had a really bad feeling that I knew exactly who they worked for and why they had tried to collect us. If my feeling was right that just made things worse. I could only hope I was wrong and this was just some huge coincidence but when was I ever really that lucky.
