Babirusa selfie by Shibara

Babirusa selfie

Shibara

I needed to work a bit on something nice for myself, so I made a pic of my animal avatar-thing babirusa.

Pencil sketcheded, and then SAIed colors.

I have a question! I hope it's not to personal! I just would really love to hear about why you've chosen a babirusa as a direct representation of yourself! I think they're lovely creatures, but I do not see them around in the community like...at all! SO I'm just really curious! Thank you for your time!

Aw don't worry ^ ^ It's not as much personal as it was a thing that just sort of... happened.

There's an assignment at my university (I'm doing a fine arts degree) called Project design. This is where you basically work your largest personal project, which carries through a least 3 years and which you are eventually supposed to base your final thesis on (something that scares the bajeezus out of me atm i u i).

In that super long-term project I had been working since the beginning with representations of people, creativity, art, and stuff like that, and I had always been using animals as a means to refer to people's subconsciousness and instinct.
At some point I had needed to include myself in this project, so I had to search for a series of representative things, among them, a representation for my own subconsciousness.

Aside from that, a while ago I went through some periods where health issues with my hands put a great cap on my capacity to produce stuff, and it had been something I'd been thinking about a lot.

So I remembered babirusas: Their tusks grow forever and if they don't grind them down with regular use they can even penetrate their own skulls.

I thought, yes, this is a good analogy for me, because that's how my mind works in regards to art. I have a powerful permanent drive to make things. If I don't make things constantly, I become stagnate and I eventually suffer. The creative drive that I use to make artwork cannot be allowed to stand still, it needs to be put to use or it DOES break my own skull.

I also think they are 75 kinds of cool and find them pretty cute visually, but in essence, I believe they are much better representations of my creative process than any other animal, so I guess this fursona is more like a representation of myself as an artist.

Sorry it was so long but the explanation came from a bit of a complicated place. >w<

        THANK YOU FOR THIS REPLY!!
Really that is amazing and wonderful, and I've always wondered and just, thank you!
Thank you for having the strength to share! I now have way more in-depth emotional content for your character! ( I don't mean in creepy way just-now it's not just a babirusa!) :D
