Put a Journal up offering a free Pokemon sketch to whoever commented with their favorite Pokemon first, and squeeji replied not even 30 seconds later, so this is for her!

Everyone always draws Smeargle as a beagle or generic dog, but its body type is bipedal, and it definitely has opposable thumbs to be able to use its tail as it does, so I decided to make it a dog-faced monkey, sort of like how there are fox-faced bats.

I figure that its "paint" is actually an adapted musk that it's ancestors used to mark territories. Similar to a male sugar glider's scent glands, or how monotremes lactate through their skin, rather than nipples or teats, the liquid oozes out and saturates the fur, discoloring it. The Smeargle can then use its tail as a makeshift brush and paint a visible marker for all species to know where its territory is.

I have no idea what the hell its skull cap is used for. I just couldn't think of anything else for the "beret" of the Smeargle to be.

Eheh, this turned out to be a little more than a sketch, didn't it?
