Final Stand by Selah

Final Stand

Selah

And the base work for this is finally as finished as its going to get right now-sorry for the lack of real color-There is so much I wish to do to this to bring to life the dramatic scene this image goes with, but currently my coloring skills are nowhere close to being what is going to be required to accomplish what I picture...

But this comes from a scene from the end of the story-Sarhea's position among the survivors at Refuge City has changed quite a bit...

And really, the best way for me to describe this image is with music-so here is a wonderful musical piece by the super talented foxamoore that inspired the idea for this artwork: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13007003/

Breaking down the song:
up to 1:09-Sarhea makes an important discovery, is amazed to see the pieces of a puzzle that has evaded her for years fall into place

1:09-1:45 Sarhea begins to see there is more to the puzzle than she realized, and she begins to see what she has been missing all the years, what has been required of her-what will be required of her..

1:45-2:15 The full gravity of what the choices that face her, the consequences of which will affect all those around her hits home

2:15-2:50 Scenes, memories of her time in Refuge City, of the friends that have become family-serves to show her what is at stake if she does not do what she knows in her heart she must do...

2:50-3:22 Her choices are difficult-there is no easy solution, but she knows what must be done to protect those that she loves

3:22-to end Decision made, Sarhea makes her stand, and finally, the purpose of her entire existence comes to pass...

And that is that...This borders on spoilers, but I've not given away anything that will spoil the story-But I had to get this scene finished and wanted to share it.

When Fox posted that song so many months back, it immediately brought this image to mind. While Fox's song is completely unrelated to anything I draw, there are certain pieces of his, like this one, that go so well with a scene in my head that it inspires me to get it on paper-you really must go listen to all the wonderful works in his gallery...

I'm fairly happy with the way this turned out-there's a few flaws that I'll work out later, and I'm still not happy with her hair-freaking wavy hair is so hard to draw, but add in wind blown wavy hair...shudders I redid it 4 times and still not satisfied...

Also learned how to use photoshop's pen tool for doing line work-I love the pen tool to pieces! I can now draw a nice curved line without having to erase it a million times before it comes out right...

But have some Selah arts-now I must go work on Christmas presents!

I love the daggers, they kind of remind me of Japanese sai blades... nicely drawn, by the way. you really captured the 'desperate' look on her face.
