June 1, 2012. Irvine, California. Califur convention, Irvine Marriott. With its "Roaring Twenties" theme, Califur 2012 is where I made the debut of my very own Scruffy the Fox fursuit. Designed and built by my good friend Kisho (who runs MoreFurLess), it is an absolute joy to wear, and I've had plenty of wonderful experiences wearing it.

When I first became a fursuiter, I made a promise to myself to remain calm, cool and collected. I'm not the only guy out there encased in an animal costume, and all I can do is the very best I can to bring warmth and smiles to a community that thrives on them.

After about three years as a fursuiter, I can honestly say that so far, I think I'm doing alright. The suit is holding up nicely, and I take good care of it. I had to install pawpads on my palms and fingers, and touch up the eyes a bit. I still wear the same outfit with the suit (the blue overshirt, the "Who's Scruffy Looking" T-shirt, and the jeans with a hole in the knee, into which I placed some orange fur). I've posed for photos, gave hugs and snuggles, performed onstage, and shared many a wonderful story.
