Harris's Hawk in the KC Zoo Bird Show

sawblade5

Sedona the Harris's Hawk is a free flying bird in the Kansas City Zoo's Wings of Wonder show. It will fly go up and down the theater in a free flight demo. It's pretty neat seeing a buteonine (soaring type hawk) flying up close.

The Harris's Hawk has a unique characteristic that is not found in any other raptors. They are a pack hunter. They will hunt in a Family Group looking for food and when they find it. The youngest in the group would have priority for the food all the way up to the oldest. One of their more interesting perches is a totem perch where they will stack on top of each other to gain a better view of the land below.
