Swainson's Hawk by sawblade5

Swainson's Hawk

sawblade5

This Light Morph Sub Adult Swainson's Hawk was spotted at Fairfax, KS on 8/22/2015 with it's mate nearby. (I assume their mated and not siblings) I have been seeing these Swainson's Hawks around here for years but kept on misidentifying them as Red-tailed Hawks. But while I was here watching this year's airshow these guys were going crazy and were very vocal about the planes intruding their territory. Simply put they wouldn't stop screeching. The way I was able to identify them as a Swainson's Hawk was the telltale bib on this bird's mate. I further verified the spotting by the call. Also realizing that this is a Swainson's Hawk I look back at a Photo I took in 2011 where one of these guys were photo bombing my shot of an Extra 300s during that year's airshow. That photo is uploaded here and is in my Submissions.
