Working Girl: Chelsea by SatsumaLord

Working Girl: Chelsea

SatsumaLord

Main Backstory:
Chelsea is currently working at a place known as Fur-Cuts, a small barbershop and hair salon that's all substance and no flash. That is to say, it's a shop that provides simple, yet stylish hairdos; not a "hip and trendy" salon that makes hairstyles you would commonly see in places like Hollywood or pop magazines.

Chelsea started working at Fur-Cuts when her mother Camille convinced her that if she wasn't going to attend college, then she should go out and find work instead; since you see, Chelsea wasn't really interested in going to any colleges or universities after graduating from high school. Chelsea wanted to be a fashion designer/super model; and as far as she was concerned, she didn't need a college degree in order to achieve that goal. Chelsea figured that if she just waited around long enough, she'd eventually be noticed by the right people, and would then be recognized as the next "big thing". Camille however, was rather unimpressed by her daughter's lackluster plan; so she "convinced" (i.e. scolded and guilt-tripped) Chelsea into working for a good friend of hers, Yolanda Cruz; the woman who owned and worked at Fur-Cuts.

Chelsea disagreed with her mother at first, giving the weak but common teenage argument of "You can't do this! It's not fair!" However, Chelsea would ultimately see things her mother's way; discovering that this was just another one of those instances where having a competent lawyer for a mother really worked against you sometimes. And so, Chelsea showed up for work within the following week; grumbling and grousing all the way there.

Other Information:
In the beginning, Chelsea didn't like working at Fur-Cuts. She hated having to sweep up all the hair clippings after every haircut, as well as having to help organize all the various chemicals and hair care products in the storeroom. As time passed though, Chelsea learned to enjoy her work. Especially when she discovered that she was a natural when it came to washing and dying hair; possessing skills more like that of a professional masseuse rather than a salon girl. Because of this, Yolanda Cruz decided to make Chelsea the salon's unofficial hair care and hair dye specialist, allowing Chelsea to spend most of her day just washing and dying the customers' hair. Every once in a while, Chelsea would provide hair cuts and trims; but for the most part, she just provides shampoo washes, hair dye therapies, as well as the occasional bleach treatment. In addition, it should be noted that since Chelsea spends so much time handling a variety of shampoos, conditioners, and other chemicals, the fur on her hands have been permanently bleached white from constant exposure to said chemicals. Her bleached hands don't negatively affect her health mind you, just their appearance.

As for Fur-Cuts itself, the hair salon is a rather small business, with only three to four employees working within its walls during any given week. The atmosphere in Fur-Cuts is fairly casual, as evidenced by their lack of employee uniforms; the closest thing they have to a uniform being their unmistakably green aprons. The Fur-Cuts hair salon is also doing mildly well when it comes to finances; it makes enough money to pay the bills and provide a steady paycheck for its employees, but not enough money to really warrant commercial growth. So in essence, Fur-Cuts is really just the atypical "Mom and Pop" store, looking to follow the American Dream; or at least, the basic idea of it anyway. X3
