The original Vanquish was up-gunned and up-armoured to fulfill a new role as a heavy attack mobile suit as opposed to it primarily being a high-powered raider unit. In this role, it also served to test newer equipment that would become part of the Separatist arsenal.

The Separatists unlike the Earth and Moon forces could not afford or locate the components necessary to develop nuclear arms, so it turned to the one technology that was still available to it at the start, beam weaponry. Scientists developed the idea of a small packet of beam emitters causing mass damage in a wide radius in the same way a fuel air bomb would function, forming the basis for the MABBS or Multi-Array Beam Barrage System that formed the foundation of the Riot package for the Vanquish unit. The MABBS weapon was launched from a bazooka or compatible launcher as a guided projectile like a missile. upon reaching its intended detonation zone, it would detach itself from the thruster nest and fire powerful beams in all directions thanks to its spherical shape. the MABBS itself would self destruct after delivering its payload, preventing enemies from acquiring its power. The key of the MABBS lies in its powerful miniature reactor which also serves as its explosive during the self destruct phase.

The Riot Vanquish was then developed to deliver the weapons system primarily, though other weapons sprang up and added to it. The bazooka was developed to launch the MABBS due to its range and ability to pre-load other weapons payloads such as the Multi-Missile Shell that could target up to 3 enemies simultaneously or deliver a single powerful explosion. the bazooka could also function as a beam weapon by installing a heavy generator into the firing chamber, allowing the Riot Vanquish to pound enemies with a powerful beam weapon. The BULK shield was an interesting addition. It was a massive shield that is able to deflect most attacks thrown against it. It was designed to survive and deflect the blast of a nuclear explosion but due to its ballistic shape and thickness, can just as easily deflect solid projectiles and a few beam hits. the shield also serves as the primary holster for the beam riot gun. The beam riot gun is a derringer styled weapon that fires beams in a spread pattern, a la shotgun. It serves as a mid-close in weapon that works best close up where the inherent inaccuracy of the design and the spread of the shot is lessened. the primary idea behind the beam riot gun was to deliver a constant spread of beams quickly without a regard for accuracy. for close quarter work, 4 high output beam sabers are located at the hips and in the knee-guards.

The vanquish itself has a few built-in weapons and can fend for itself in the event it needs to shed the Riot package. It is armed with a pair of small beam interceptor guns that enable it to shoot down incoming projectiles accurately though not quickly. It is also armed with a pair of beam swords that function as beam guns when they're stored in the fore arms. the riot package mounts additional armour and weapons systems to the vanquish which ultimately slows it down but attempts to compensate though not completely; its no longer as fast as it once was but is still faster than the average mobile suit. the units weapons systems pose a slight problem to the operator; the bazooka enables it to engage enemies at a distance and the beam riot gun works best close up, so there is no weapon that can effectively deal with targets in the middle. a small trade off for the ability to fire a warhead that can shred mobile suits and ships alike in a sphere of beams.
